REVIEW # 05
I have a background in Geomatics and it made the Applied degree program at SAIT quite easy I know others that had a geography background that thought that also it goes well together. With geography you understand the whole spatial thing so it works really well. If you are in the Calgary getting a job/practicum is quite easy the GIS community in Calgary knows about the program and the practicum requirement. I am not totally sure but I think everyone out of my class got jobs in the field of GIS. I do support this program for anyone interested and it provides great technical training to get a job in any industry. Also I recommend the oil and gas class if you are looking for a job in Calgary almost any job is related to oil and gas so any knowledge about the industry is great.

Dear All, please find below some more reviews I have recently received
Review # 01 Hello. I'll tell you what I tell everyone who considers any career: The best always find work in their field, and so do quite a few who rank lower than the best. I found work easily enough, but I don't know where I rank amongst my peers. Most of my classmates found work quickly.
You don't have to have any particular background, but it helps to have an analytical mind and to be a problem solver. I don't know you, so I can't judge. Never pursue an education because it will get you work, pursue it because that it what you are interested in.

It’s a great program but as for now it’s not easy to get a job as a GIS Tech. Anybody can take the program, as for me I am not working with the GIS, getting the practicum is not an easy task. Well I'm not discouraging you not to take the program, it might be different for you.

You have a good chance at finding a job you want depending on how well you do in the course, although some of the students in my class who finished in the lower end of the class still found jobs. You do not need a geography background. Some people background will give them advantages like mine is computer engineering so I understood a lot of the really technical stuff and computer programming a lot easier, but you don’t need anything in particular. Practicum and finding a job are one in the same. Some companies will hire you just for your practicum but others will hire you for a job. To be honest, if the practicum is the same as when i went to SAIT then you'll laugh at it when the time comes. Most practicum only positions are very dry, cheap labor work which won’t be as close to the full aspect of GIS, which is ok to finish your degree but start finding a job/career once class ends. Actually I want to clarify that how well you do in the course doesn't necessarily mean your grade, it is actually how well you understood and absorbed the GIS concepts/training and your ability to keep learning GIS once you are out of class and find a job.
Review # 04
As far as work goes and finding a practicum, SAIT really helped with finding a practicum for everyone. I did not find it that difficult, you may want to check if SAIT still helps with finding practicum's for that program. With regards to experience, all you should need is any 2 years of post secondary. There were a lot of people who went into the program having no experience or knowledge about GIS.
