Emergency Management Advisor / Senior Advisor - National Operations (System Champion)

The Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management (MCDEM) is a business unit of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. It provides leadership in reducing risk, being ready for, responding to and recovering from emergencies.



We're looking for an Emergency Management Advisor / Senior Advisor National Operations to join our small, but highly productive team. The Advisor/Senior Advisor role offers a great opportunity to take your customer service and information management skills to the next level in a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders in the implementation, support and further development of our exciting new communication and alerting systems. This is a challenging role in a high performing team- we're looking for the right candidates that are wanting to champion these critical systems.



You will use your technical acumen and apply a very strong customer relationship focus as you work and collaborate with colleagues within MCDEM, and externally with emergency services and regional Civil Defence Emergency Management Groups, Central Agency Shared Services IT specialists and suppliers.



We are interested in hearing from someone who can work with a high degree of autonomy and self-management. You will have experience in:

• Working in an operational environment under high pressure;
• Developing and maintaining operational processes and systems;
• Translating technical speak into plain and understandable language;
• Developing and delivering training;
• Facilitating system governance across our user agencies;
• Project coordination; and
• Establishing strong and enduring relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

As part of your role you will also play an important part in our Duty Team and helping New Zealand to respond to emergency events.

This position requires you to successfully obtain and maintain a 'Secret' or higher security clearance and only people with the right to work in New Zealand may apply.
