
The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has hailed the decision by the African Union to suspend Israel's proposed observer status at the international organisation. "The Israel question has been suspended for now," explained a diplomat on the closing day of the AU's annual summit in Addis Ababa. "Instead there will be a committee set up to study the issue." Hamas Spokesman Hazem Qasem called on the committee "to act in line with the AU's values and principles based on rejecting occupation and racial discrimination."
